March 4th, 2020, Becky Bronstein of Washington Green Schools met 15 middle school teachers in Chehalis, WA to better develop their understanding of floods and droughts. They centered their discussions on relating these issues to their students’ lives region-wide, statewide, and globally. Pictured, teachers are manipulating and controlling the appropriate variables in order to Model the Greenhouse Effect. One lucky participant took the Greenhouse Model home with them. Later in the morning, they were exposed to climate science data from Dr. Peter Neff, Research Science from the University of Washington, and his work in Antarctica. The teachers concluded their day brainstorming ways they could assist with their districts’ emergency preparedness plans with help from Andy Caldwell, Deputy Director at Lewis County Emergency Management.
